The Simon Fraser University’s Summer Publishing Workshops began life at the Banff Centre, in August 1981, with two courses on book and magazine publishing.

In 1997 the workshops were moved the Harbour Centre campus by the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing. Since then the program has expanded to include 28 workshops on books, magazines, Web, editing, design and corporate publishing. Each summer 400 to 500 participants learn from more than 100 industry professionals from across North America.
